 oat is a symbol of unity\, civil rights and the future of our Asian Pacifi
 c Islander Community. About 2300 years ago\, Qu Yuan\, a Patriotic Poet an
 d a exemplary for integrity and loyalty\, advocated for justice and the ri
 ghts of the common people.\nFor the Dragon Boat Festival\, we will continu
 e Qu Yuan's legacy by honoring two Asian Pacific Islander people with inte
 grity and deep loyalty to our community and state. They are also champions
  for the rights of the common people. The first honoree is Assembly-member
  Dave Jones who advocates for civil rights and a long-time supporter of OC
 A and many API Organizations. The second honoree is Dr. Sonney Chong\, the
  president of Capital\, and avid supporter and advocate to improving the w
 ell-being of Asian Pacific Americans throughout the Greater Sacramento Com
 munity.\nWe will also continue Qu Yuan's legacy by honoring the next gener
 ation of scholars by awarding eight young Asian Pacific Islander children 
 who have demonstrated their ability to think critically\, write clearly an
 d effectively communicate how they will improve the well-being of American
  Asian Pacific Americans if they were elected to be the first Asian Pacifi
 c American President.\n\nStart time: 3:30-5:30pm\, outdoor reception\n5:30
