The CROP Hunger Walk is annual interfaith community event held in nearly 2,000 communities across the U.S. The Walk is sponsored by the Interfaith Service Bureau, caring Sacramento residents and by the Church World Service. The Walk has two purposes: 1) to raise awareness about people around the world who must walk to find food, water, firewood, freedom and other necessities of life; and 2) to rise funds to help stop hunger wherever it exists.

Twenty-five percent of the funds raised by the CROP Hunger Walk are distributed in the Sacramento community. The 2017 recipients will be the Northminster Seniors Brown Bag Food Program, the South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership Food Closet, and the River City Food Bank.

Seventy-five percent of the funds raised by the Walk will be spent to support sustainable self-help development projects globally and domestically, such as, digging wells, providing tools and seeds, rebuilding homes, teaching trade skills, through micro-enterprise loans; to meet emergency needs of the victims of natural and man-made disasters; to aid refugees by affiliation with regional organizations such as Opening Doors Inc. in Sacramento; and to address the root causes of poverty and powerlessness.

You can find out how to participate in the Sacramento CROP Hunger Walk at our website: www.crophungerwalk.org/sacramentoca. Persons may participate by asking for sponsors and collecting donations, donating online at our website, or by bringing a can of food and joining the Walk on Saturday, October 7, 2017 on the south steps of the State Capitol at 10 & N Streets. Registration is free and begins at 9:30 a.m. The Walk begins at 10:00 a.m. There is a 3-mile round-trip walk to the River City Food Bank and an alternative 1-mile walk around Capitol Park.
