October 30, 2008-April 12, 2009
Add Review/Comment
In a decade filled with drama and change, 1968 stands out as the pivotal year, which saw an explosion of events that altered the nation's perception of the war in Vietnam and of itself. President Johnson announced that he would not seek reelection; Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert Kennedy were assassinated two months apart, and large and violent protest erupted outside of both Democratic and Republican National Conventions. In Sacramento, residents witnessed and took part in these dramatic events that shook every corner of this nation. No part of the country was isolated and local citizens found their lives permanently changed. This exhibition documents how local residents were impacted by history and how their lives were permanently changed. Utilizing newspaper accounts, photographs and artifacts museum visitors get a rare opportunity to see how events of 40 years ago are still relevant today.
