An Evening with the Tibetan Monks of the Gaden Shartse

An evening of music, chant and debate with monks of Gaden Shartse Monastery. The monks will perform and demonstrate the different types of ceremonial instruments and chants used in the rituals of Tibetan Buddhism. There will be a short monastic debate, an almost acrobatic form of lively interchange that is the core form of training and study at the monastery. After demonstrating this unique form of "debate", you will then have of opportunity to challenge the monks with your own questions, which will ensure lots of participatory fun and laughter. There will also be time to ask questions about their life in the monastery, the purpose of the monastery and what they study, life in exile for the Tibetans, the meaning of their robes and ceremonial implements, who is the Dalai Lama, etc.
