Gold on the Bay: San Francisco in the 1850s
Presented by California Museum for History, Women and the Arts at California Museum
April 18-December 20, 2009
The story of San Francisco's rapid growth during the Gold Rush comes to life in intricate collages created by artist Wilfried Podreich, aka Satty, in the 1960s. Coupled with historic artifacts from California State Parks, the artwork reveals how a slow-paced Mexican town became the cultural and economic center of a new state.
