Dragon Boat Festival Celebration
May 2, 2009
Add Review/Comment
The Dragon Boat is a symbol of unity, civil rights and the future of our Asian Pacific Islander Community. About 2300 years ago, Qu Yuan, a Patriotic Poet and a exemplary for integrity and loyalty, advocated for justice and the rights of the common people.
For the Dragon Boat Festival, we will continue Qu Yuan’s legacy by honoring two Asian Pacific Islander people with integrity and deep loyalty to our community and state. They are also champions for the rights of the common people. The first honoree is Assembly-member Dave Jones who advocates for civil rights and a long-time supporter of OCA and many API Organizations. The second honoree is Dr. Sonney Chong, the president of Capital, and avid supporter and advocate to improving the well-being of Asian Pacific Americans throughout the Greater Sacramento Community.
We will also continue Qu Yuan’s legacy by honoring the next generation of scholars by awarding eight young Asian Pacific Islander children who have demonstrated their ability to think critically, write clearly and effectively communicate how they will improve the well-being of American Asian Pacific Americans if they were elected to be the first Asian Pacific American President.
