PERFORMING ARTS

Progeny Exhibit
July 14-September 5, 2009
Add Review/Comment
Progeny pairs Deborah Willis and her son, Hank Willis Thomas, in their first official collaboration. Willis is a photographer, educator and curator. Thomas has become known for his stinging critque of advertising and its impact on contemporary life. Consisting of photographs and video, the exhibit is a narrative of their family history, their developments as artists, and the fusion of the two. While each is an accomplished artist on his or her own, the two unite to produce poignant works. The seamless mix of images and language turns out to be a mysterious and subtle investigation of family, intimacy, and memory. This exhibit was previously shown at the Bernice Steinbaum Gallery, Florida and the Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Art Gallery, Columbia University, New York.
