The 2009 Transcontinental Motor Convoy will be stopping at the California Automobile Museum as they finish the last leg of their commemorative cross-country journey from Washington D.C. to San Francisco. This event, organized by the Military Vehicle Preservation Association in conjunction with the Lincoln Highway Association, the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission and many more organizations, retraced the route of the first US ARMY Transcontinental Motor Convoy across the United States, along the Lincoln Highway.
The first convoy made the journey in 1919 and traveled for sixty-two days. With much improved traveling conditions, the 2009 Convoy is able to make the same trip in a mere twenty-six days. The group anticipates that over 50 Historic Military Vehicles will travel the entire 3,200+ coast to coast and that 100 more joined along the way and traveled shorter distances with the group. Come to see the 50 vehicles that are part of the main convoy. The National Guard will also be doing a Color Guard Presentation.
Viewing of the vehicles outside will be free. Community members are then encouraged to tour the California Automobile Museum who will offer half-off Museum admission that day. With over 150 cars on display, along with artifacts and other auto memorabilia, the Museum is a detour you don’t want to miss!!!
