September 3, 2009-January 3, 2010

Trees and the animals that live in them are the stars of this highly interactive science encounter. Visitors learn about the importance of trees in everyday life and how humans and animals depend upon them.
Learn the age of a tree by counting the rings in the tree samples and compare them to the two-hundred-year-old specimen. Test your sense of smell in the Tree Scents display. Listen to the sounds of animals in the Rainforest Tree Corner. Use compare-and-contrast skills to examine many different bird nests and eggs.
Other interactive learning areas include the Log Cabin, Be a Squirrel, and Bear Corner. Special displays include: How Pencils Are Made, Tree Products from Around the World, and the California Trees Cone Collection. Search-and-Find Learning Guides, aligned to science standards, are provided to visitors at three different levels. Younger visitors can learn to rough it -- "cook" over the fires in the log cabin and campsite, and crawl through the Old Log.
