The Sacramento History Museum, in partnership with the California Exhibition Resources Alliance, presents Past Tents: The Way We Camped, a statewide traveling exhibition that explores camping in California from post-Gold Rush times to the mid-1900s through contemporary prints of rare historic photographs and objects from the collections of the California Historical Society, the Bancroft Library and local artifacts from the Center for Sacramento History.
The exhibition features three major themes:
• Round the Campground which will focus on the location and character of campsites and the tools and utensils used in camp
• Hitting the Trail focusing on the means of travel on past campers
• Open Roads, Open Fires focusing on the impact the automobile had camping, despite the bad roads and multiple breakdowns
