Union Hall Gallery Gourd Show
October 10 - October 21, 2009
Mick Sheldon and students exhibit paintings and drawings of bottleneck gourds. As a teacher Mick has used still lives with gourds. Mick and his wife grow a dozen of these gourds. They lay them out on racks tied to the fence. The gourds molded and dried, Mick then put two coats of varnish on them. The gourd is a perfect form, it has volume, it has shape, it has curves, and it accepts light well. The gourd serves as a counter point to bright objects. Some of the better paintings and drawings have been done by observing the gourd juxtaposed against other forms.
