A Day in the Life Project, Inc, is to empower, highlight, and encourage underserved and at-risk youth, teens, and communities through the art of photography. This is accomplished by bringing youth, teens, volunteers, supporters, student photographers of area community college and university photography programs, as well as professional photographers from outside of an area, together with youth and teens of a community that is in need of shattering stereotypes and would not typically receive special recognitions.
We go into these communities, travel throughout, and photograph A Day in the Life. We invite youth and teens from the targeted area elementary, junior high, and high schools to photograph their community and surroundings of pre-approved and permission granted, safe and welcoming locations, businesses, community centers, libraries, safety facilities, etc.
We will be documenting change, growth and the everyday living of a rich and blossoming community. It is our goal to shatter stereotypes, and to emphasize businesses, homes, community supporting organizations and agencies, the strong art community, and some of the safety and educational facilities of the neighborhood.
The planned schedule of each A Day in the Life Project includes a slideshow of selected images photographed to be shown at a locations within the photographed community, in 24-72 hours of each day of photographing.
This is then followed, within 1-3 months, by a gallery showing, again at a location within the photographed community, of 70-100 final printed, matted, and framed images that the participants have captured from the day of photographing.
After the initial gallery display, it will be open to have traveling gallery display throughout the city of Sacramento.
