Aspiring young writers and avid readers, from grades 6 thru 12, will mingle with peers, published authors and book industry professionals featuring several guest speakers, followed by a writing workshop. This event will highlight National Novel Writing Month. Guest authors include Michele Scott and Linda Joy Singleton. Special guest is literary agent Amy Burkhardt with Kimberley Cameron & Associates.

Michele Scott is the author of Murder Uncorked, the Wine Lover's Mystery Series as well as the Horse Lover's Mystery Series published by Berkley Prime Crime (Penguin). With plots involving twins, cheerleaders, ghosts, psychics and clones, author Linda Joy Singleton has published over 25 Middle-grade and Young Adult Books.

The writing workshop, addresses two of the toughest parts of writing - starting a story, then finishing it. In this workshop, Michele will help writers overcome those "mid story blues" that every writer faces. Maybe you have lost the direction of the story, or your characters aren't as fascinating as they were in the beginning, or any other number of reasons. Michele will offer tips and guidance to get through that story and finish happily with "the end." Again, bring your work and get help!

      With great pleasure, I recommend Capitol City Young Writers. The professional quality of the event, dedication of volunteers and enthusiasm of the students were amazing. The recipe for compelling creative writing includes, among other ingredients, internal passion and detached objectivity. Good writers stoke their inner fires while controlling the burn, a process requiring self-control and skill. Writing workshops, peer critique and mentoring programs help writers blend fresh approaches with professional polish. Straight talk about the publishing industry provides direction and modulates expectations. Yet writers have needs beyond creating worlds through words and seeking publication. Often they need reassurance and personal support to keep their love for writing strong. They need to participate in a welcoming writing community.
