Meet the Author - December Workshop

Aspiring young writers and avid readers, from grades 6 thru 12, will mingle with peers, published authors and book industry professionals featuring several guest speakers, followed by a writing workshop. This "Meet the Author" workshop will highlight non-fiction writing.

Guest speakers will include NY Times Bestselling Author Jennifer Basye Sander, Koula Gianulias from CBS13 Sacramento and freelance editor and reporter JT Long. Jennifer Basye Sander is the author, co-author, or ghostwriter of more than a thirty books, including "The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Getting Published." Koula Gianulias joined the CBS 13 team in October of 2006 and has covered everything from wildfires to politics – her favorite topic. JT Long is a freelance editor and reporter for business, political and financial publications. Her work has appeared in Fortune, Engineering News-Record and Comstock's magazines. The writing workshop, "The Write Audience" will be led by JT Long.

Did you know that you can pitch journalistic story ideas in a multitude of ways? In this workshop, JT Long will help you brainstorm magazine story topics and then create different leads for different publications based on an understanding of the audience. You’ll understand the importance of The hook, The voice, and The spin.
