Demonstration Day: Farewell, Captain! Sutter Leaves for Hock Farm (1848)
October 16, 2010
Add Review/Comment
Dejected and overrun by settlers, Captain Sutter abandons his beloved Fort, transferring title to his land to, John Sutter Jr and selling his Fort to Alden Bayly for $7,000. In this demonstration day, re-enactors help Capt. Sutter pack up and discuss what pending changes are in store for the Fort and surrounding, and wonder how life will proceed with this Gold Rush changing everything that they’ve ever known. Townspeople are eager to have new uses for the now obsolete Fort, and are already planning for the new uses.
