A unique event completely centered on the history and culture of Downtown and Midtown Sacramento. Fun and challenging clues will lead the players from Sacramento landmarks, to parks, and even to public art and local businesses. Fast-paced and exciting, the hunt is also an amazing opportunity for family and friends to learn about the city and their fellow hunters.

An urban adventure presented by Downtown Grid and Mastermind Treasure Hunts. Proceeds from Hunt the Grid will benefit Hands on Sacramento, the Sacramento region’s full-service volunteer action center and a committed advocate for innovative social change.

Your Mission: assemble a team of family and friends, then use your collective brainpower to solve fun and challenging clues. Find each secret location before your opponents, and become the stuff of legend! Players will each receive a customized map and a set of clues, but must provide their own sense of adventure and comfortable footwear.

More than just an unforgettable experience, the hunt will be a great opportunity to explore the hidden treasures of downtown Sacramento while exercising both mind and body.

So What is an Urban Treasure Hunt, anyway?

Urban treasure hunts or puzzle-hunts are information-based scavenger hunts, in which teams solve clues leading to "secret" locations in search of specific information rather than a list of objects. San Francisco's Chinese New Year Treasure Hunt is one of the largest in the US, but similar hunts have cropped up in Miami, and New York.

Small teams receive sets of clues and a detailed map: each clue leads to a nearby location where players must find and use a vital piece of information to answer a question. Clue locations are always within walking distance, and typically involve historic landmarks, public art, or just a unique spot that players might easily overlook in everyday life.

Clues can involve wordplay, puzzles, trivia, simple code-breaking, or other challenges, and are usually more difficult for one person to solve on their own. Teams that make use of the combined knowledge and skills of each member will have the greatest advantage. The hunt will last 3-4 hours, and is open to groups of friends and family ages 10 and up.
