Come to a day of Native American films for a unique program part of the Sacramento International Film Festival.
Films include:
Last Days of Shishmaref- The story of a tribe living in a village on the shores of the Arctic Ocean, whose village and way of life are disappearing as waters rise in the wake of global warming.
Behind the Door of a Secret Girl- The story of Sammy, a teenage girl living on the Indian Ridge Reservation, trying to escape her mother’s boyfriend, a drug dealer who is using the reservation as a cover for his drug trafficking
Mystical Fire- Aaliyah, a teenage Lakota Sioux girl, is chosen to carry her family prayers in the sacred pipe as she goes on a mystical journey
River of Renewal- The story of the conflict over water and wild salmon, between farmers, American Indians and fishermen of the Klamath Basin
Finding D-QU- The Lonely Struggle of California’s Only Tribal College explores stories of hope, healing and conflict that arise as D-Q University’s supporters fight to hold on to a dream that was never fully realized.
