The State Indian Museum is proud to offer a dynamic and history rich seminar about Sacramento’s Native first peoples. Cultural Historian April Farnham will share her extensive research and historical knowledge of the Nisenan Maidu villages that were located along the American River prior to the early 1900s.

In addition, she will focus on prominent indigenous people, their daily lives and experiences during the Gold Rush era while correlating the information to the local geographic area. In fact, Farnham has been diligently studying California Indian history and culture for nearly 10 years while volunteering her time at the State Indian Museum. Concurrently, she had been working at the newly renovated Maidu Interpretive Center/Indian Museum in Roseville as the collections curator and an outreach educator for the last five years. Currently, she works as an independent scholar and educator focused on expanding and sharing her knowledge about California’s early Native communities.
