Aspiring young writers and avid readers, from grades 6 thru 12, will mingle with peers, published authors and book industry professionals featuring several guest speakers, followed by a writing workshop. This event will highlight National Novel Writing Month.

Guest author, Tanya Egan Gibson, will offer a pre-workshop lecture on the importance of revision. This workshop will focus on thinking of revision as "deepening" rather than just "changing" or "bettering" your writing. Learn to make what you love about your stories or essays shine. Discover why effective writing is composed of many layers of thought, time, and drafting. And most of all, experience the fun, freedom, and playfulness that re-visioning (seeing again) can bring to your writing process.

Tanya is the author of How to Buy a Love of Reading, a novel about nouveau riche parents who try to cure their teenage daughter's hatred of books. Tanya is a former high school English and creative writing teacher. After the revision discussion, members will be able to workshop their own writing! Working in groups of 5, these small groups will be led by an author, educator, literary agent or creative writing student at the university. Members will workshop their beginning pages and have the opportunity to receive feedback.
