Carnivorous Plant & Bromeliad Show

at Shepard Garden and Art Center

Forty years ago a few local residents with an interest in what was then an unusual family of plants, bromeliads, met in a living room and started the Sacramento Bromeliad Society. In the years since bromeliads have entered the mainstream of the plant world and are readily available in stores and supermarkets. They range from the tiny one-inch Spanish Moss to thirty-five foot giants of the high Andes, and display every color of an artist's palette.

A few years ago we decided to broaden our appeal and add carnivorous plants to our portfolio (yes there are carnivorous bromeliads!). These unusual and easy to grow plants are now more readily available and a number of our members were growing them.

For those who would like to not just purchase and dispose of their plants, but would like to see them grow and flourish for many generations, the Society is a place to learn how to grow and propagate both bromeliads and carnivorous plants, and to acquire the more unusual plants within each genus.

Our 40th anniversary show will continue our tradition of filling every space in the Center with colorful plants from both families. Hundreds of plants will also be on sale at excellent prices. Our members will be on hand to give advice on growing and propagating. Please join us to celebrate 40 years of learning and sharing knowledge about these attractive, varied, and easy to grow plant families.
