The Alta California: Celebrations of Home began in 2009 when the Consul General of Mexico selected La Raza Galería Posada to host the exhibit. This exhibit is in conjunction with the international MEXICO 2010 celebrations. This exhibition is based on materials accumulated, over 40 years of events by Sacramento residents and community groups that organized and participated in México’s civic-holiday celebrations.

Over a nine-month period La Raza Galería Posada staff collected archival material from Sacramento residents. Included in the exhibition are personal photographs, newspaper articles and historical documents that demonstrate the civic pride Americans of Mexican descent have for the land of their birth and for their new home--Sacramento.

Rare photographs by Sacramento photographers Hector Gonzalez, Freddy Romero, and the late Rudy Cuellar Sr. are among the highlights of the exhibition. Designed for the exhibition by Assistant Curator, Michael Collett are three digital collages from back issues of local newspapers including El Progreso and El Hispano. The enlarged collages are visual kiosk of information reflecting the events spanning forty years.

Alta California presentation with scholar Felipa Irene Lugo on the Art of 1910.
-Fri, Sept 17th, 6pm-8pm
Private Concert with Bay Area singer song writer Enrique Ramirez. Seating is limited, RSVP requested. Admission $5
