Travel back in time at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park! Re-live the time in our history when excitement and anticipation was high among the newly-formed California Battalion ready to fight to defend their ideals, but not necessarily so for many left behind to worry about their loved ones.

During a special “Demonstration Day: Holding Down the Fort,” visitors will experience a first-hand perspective of the struggle that played out between California’s early emigrant families and what it was like for those left behind to tend to daily life feeding families, caring for animals, and crafting needed wares.
