Sacramento’s critically acclaimed theatre company, KOLT Run Creations, presents Escape From Happiness, a raucous dark comedy by celebrated Canadian playwright George F. Walker.

Meet the Dawsons, a familiar but eccentric, working-class family battling drugs, alcohol, random acts of violence, police corruption, and (semi) organized crime in their impoverished neighborhood: the hopeful mother, Nora; eldest daughter and protector, Elizabeth; middle child, Mary Ann, whose sunny denial promotes her to cook obsessively; youngest daughter, Gail, a new mother herself; and recently returned father, Tom, who may or may not be the crazed, abusive ex-cop he once was.

A former taxi driver, playwright George F. Walker’s corrosively satirical viewpoint on modern urban culture has produced a prolific and successful body of work with many critics describing his plays as “spoken opera.”
