Grand Opening Celebration & Public Art Unveiling

A grand opening celebration for Phase II of Shasta Park will take place this weekend in the Rose Garden Wedding Area. Free ice cream and frozen yogurt will be provided. Please spread the word to your neighbors and we hope to see you there!

Be sure to check view the newly installed public artwork--last week, artist Willem deGroot installed a public artwork in the newly completed portion of Shasta Park, adjacent to Valley Hi Library. The artwork celebrates flight and consists of four mixed-metal sculptures that mark the primary pathway that traverses the park. An 8-foot high sculpture located on the park’s north side is titled “Baron Von Munchausen” and, when caught by the wind, playfully spins round and round. Two 12-foot high light towers titled “Eclectic Towers” are next along the pathway. The final of the four sculptures, located at the south end of the pathway is titled “Da Vinci Flying Machine”. The 11-foot wide kinetic sculpture mounted at the top of a recycled light pole is an ode to Da Vinci’s studies of flight.

The artworks were commissioned by the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, Art in Public Places Program.
