Comic opera set in the 18th century under the Ottoman empire, where kozaks are living under Turkish oppression. Two lovers are arrested by the Turks for attempting to escape back to their homeland, Ukraine. Wily Kozak, Karas, intervenes to save the lovers.The opera features great music, colorful native costumes, and traditional Ukrainian Kozak dancing.
