Journalism 2.0: How Social Media Has Transformed the News
October 19, 2010
Add Review/Comment
Technology continues to revolutionize the way news is reported and consumed. Anyone with a smartphone, a blog or a Twitter account can break a story hours before the morning paper or evening news. In this new digital reality, media outlets are scrambling to find ways to use social media tools to reach and engage their audiences in meaningful ways. Journalists are live blogging and scanning tweets. Newsrooms are talking SEO. PR professionals are creating digital assets, hosting web chats and Ustreaming events to promote their news.
Hosted by Sacramento Social Media Club, "Journalism 2.0" is a free event for news consumers, journalists, and PR professionals that want to learn more about the latest trends in social media and reporting.
Topics include:
•How do newsrooms use social networking sites for story ideas and sources?
•How have sites like Twitter and Youtube changed reporting practices?
•How has the Web allowed for more communication between reporters and readers?
•Is there less demand for time-intensive investigative pieces in a digital world filled with short attention spans?
Social media can spread news of an international disaster in seconds. It can also spread false information just as fast. It’s a medium that all media outlets are wrestling with as traditional journalism shifts to accommodate the immediacy of the Digital Age.
