Dave Eggers Book Signing

Presented by Sacramento Public Library and California Lectures at Crest Theatre

As the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina approached, the Sacramento Public Library named the book Zeitoun, by Dave Eggers, as the book selected for the 2010 One Book Sacramento: Connecting Our Communities project. Mr. Eggers will discuss his writings at a free program at the Crest Theatre. Egger’s appearance is presented in conjunction with California Lectures and The Sacramento Bee. Both are presenting partners with the Sacramento Public Library for this year’s One Book Sacramento: Connecting Our Communities.

Zeitoun is a nonfiction book that tells the story of Abdulrahman Zeitoun, the Syrian-American owner of a painting and contracting company in New Orleans who chose to ride out Hurricane Katrina in his Uptown home. After the storm he traveled the flooded city in a secondhand canoe rescuing neighbors, caring for abandoned pets, and distributing fresh water.
