Make your own Christmas ornament in a Southwest Indian Style - families welcome! A Workshop by April Farnham - Culture2Classroom.
This course introduces children ages 4 and up to symbols and mythology of Southwest Indian cultures. Program will include a basic overview of traditional Southwest Indian arts (e.g., pottery, sculpture, basketry, and textiles). Tracing and painting of Southwest designs will enhance student appreciation for Indian culture, storytelling, and creativity.
Children will discover:
-Native cultures of the Southwest and their traditions
-Ways in which Southwest Indians connected to their environment through art
-How Native stories/beliefs are communicated through symbols
-Basic colors and materials used in designing pottery
This workshop is a fun way for families to celebrate Christmas and learn about Native cultures at the same time.
