October 15, 2011
Add Review/Comment
As part of the month-long Artober effort that highlights the arts in Sacramento, join for an educational and fun-filled day for the entire family! Observe the time-honored tradition of preparing acorn for food and learn Native arts & crafts-making. Sample Native foods, and spend the afternoon helping us celebrate the acorn harvest season! Children can participate in Native games, traditional arts & crafts, and hands-on table activities.
Then, as a special treat from 11am-1pm, special guest and master basket weaver Dixie Rogers of the Karuk Tribe will be on-hand to demonstrate traditional basket weaving methods and techniques that are mesmerizing to watch. She will also explain how to gather, clean, process, size, and care for the native plant materials that she’s learned over a lifetime.
Additionally, basketry, beadwork, clothing, and exhibits about the ongoing traditions of various California Indian groups will be on display at the Museum.
