Wires & Wood is a forum for artists to share their craft. Each episode features a specific genre with a guest host to represent the musical stylings. Come on down and listen to Jay, and enjoy authentic Americana.
The Jay Dirt Band (some of Slewfoot String Band) sound like a tough, hillbillified Arthur Lee-led Love when they play Jay's car paean "429," and they love Cash, the Byrds, Neil Young, and Jimmy Rogers. Dark and fun. Featuring Jay Swanigan on vocals and 6-string, they will have your toes tappin' and your fingers drummin' with a sound that's a little bit country and a little bit rock 'n roll.
Wesley Swanigan has formed a trio of acoustic guitarists to play swing music a la Django Reinhardt, Stephan Grappelli, and the Quintet of the Hot Club of France. The style of music played by The Hot Club is made of dinner and dance tunes from the '30s and '40s, mixed with captivating romantic melodies more likely to be heard along the banks of the Seine than the banks of the Sacramento. With an ear for guitar from a musical family, Wesley started on a path altered by Freddy Green, Al Jardine, Don Rich, Wes Montgomery, B.B. King, and Vladimir Boyko. The trail continued to a brand of guitar-oriented music called gypsy jazz, which Le Hot Club de Carmichael embodies.
