Sudwerk Brewery celebrates 21 years as the region’s pioneer for local craft beers by releasing a limited edition beer, Sudwerk Imperial Pilsner, during Sacramento Beer Week at Local Bands, Local Brews a Sudwerk Beer Week Celebration featuring Justin Farren, The Hot Tar Roofers, The Red Knots, Blvd. Park, and Musical Charis.
Sudwerk Imperial Pilsner is a hoppier, stronger pils that is quickly garnering acclaim from critics and beer lovers alike. Inspired by “field research” at a brewhaus in Bavaria, Sudwerk Brewmaster, Jay Prahl, decided to “imperialize” one of Sudwerk’s most celebrated and award winning brews. By increasing the hops, with the royal characteristics of the revered Hallertau Perle Hop, and amplifying the clean and crisp nature of the Pilsner malts he brought forth a bolder, stronger, hoppier Pilsner that packs a wonderful punch.
But don’t just take our word for it…the LA Times named Sudwerk Imperial Pilsner as their February 2011 Beer of the Month: "It has a huge, dense head like a proper Pilsner, with a clean, floral nose. The malt makes it noticeably sweeter, though not as sweet as a bock. The main effect of the hops is not so much aroma or bitterness but a neat cleanup of the finish, which starts on the sweet side but dries up smoothly in a matter of seconds."
