Open Reel: A Juried Short Film Competition

The Center for Contemporary Art, Sacramento (CCAS) proudly announces that it has added Open Reel, a juried, 3 minute short film competition, to the 6th annual Capitol Artists’ Studio Tour (CAST). The juried competition will be the prelude to the Tour weekend, in which nearly 100 artists open their studios to the public for free. CAST has focused largely on more traditional mediums (i.e., painting and ceramics) so Open Reel was added to feature the vibrant, Sacramento independent film community who otherwise do not have an opportunity to showcase their work to the general public.

Jurors for the competition will be: Jenny E. Stark, Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Film, California State University Sacramento, CCAS Exhibition Committee member and award winning filmmaker and Ed Ortiz, Arts Journalist and Music Critic for the Sacramento Bee, award winning playwright and instructor of screenwriting at Sacramento State.

Participants, both amateur and professional, must submit work that is 3 minutes or less in duration. There are no other restrictions and prizes will be awarded for best amateur film and audience favorite. See the Classified for more information (Submission deadline is July 30, 2011).
