The Athens features Peter Holden on lead vocals and guitar, Micah Bear on guitar and BG vocals, Rich Smith on bass, and Kurt Hardaway on drums. Although the band began to form more than a year ago with the meeting of Holden & Bear, things didn't start happening until Hardaway entered into the picture in the summer of '06. Rich stepped in on bass shortly afterwords.

As for the music, The Athens think of themselves as storyteller rock, with plenty of hooks to go around. If you think the music scene today is flooded with too many bands that don't have memorable songs, get ready to think differently. Peter describes the music as "a heavier version of Matchbox 20, along with hints of Marvelous 3 and The Replacements." So take a listen and get ready for something new. Pop music is back in Sacramento, and The Athens are going to make you believe it!
