An event of Reflection on the Past - Hope for the Future that features displays, speakers, music, food, children’s activities. From 1947-49, over 750,000 Palestinians were driven from their homes by colonial militias and then the Israeli army. The new state of Israel destroyed or occupied 531 Palestinian villages and took over 78% of historic Palestine.
On May 15, Palestinians commemorate these events as Al-Nakba, which means “The Catastrophe” in Arabic. Palestinians, who had lived in historic Palestine for generations, continue to celebrate their culture while they struggle for freedom, justice, equality, and the right to return to their homes and lands.
