June 14, 2011
Add Review/Comment
Come to the beautifully restored Crest Theatre for an inspirational event hosted by Sacramento Cottage Housing Inc. Every year, our organization chooses someone in the Sacramento community who has made a profound and lasting impact in the lives of underprivileged individuals to honor them with the Beacon of Hope Award. For 2011, we have chosen the Founding chair of the Sacramento Homeless Policy Board and Sutter Medical Center of Sacramento’s CEO, Tom Gagen, who has been a valiant advocate for the homeless community over the years. All proceeds will benefit Sacramento Cottage Housing, Inc., an award-winning Sacramento non-profit serving formerly homeless individuals and families.
Formerly homeless participants from Cottage Housing will be sharing their incredible stories of life on the streets and their transition to more sustainable living, becoming clean and sober, reuniting families, and personal healing. You won't want to miss it!
In addition, there will be performances from various Sacramento Celebrities:
Sacramento Taiko Dan: The premier Japanese drumming ensemble in the greater Sacramento region. Founded in 1989, a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. Performers include community members and an international touring performance team. The combination of renowned drummers and outstanding drums enables us to provide audiences with world-class entertainment. Promote cultural awareness and diversity; continue the traditional styles while developing new forms; educate new and existing students from diverse backgrounds.
Terry Moore aka T MO: An eclectic, electric, luring, and mind stimulating blend of spoken word, Terry Moore has opened for Maya Angelou, Kirk Franklin, The Temptations, and more. He was named Best Poet in Sacramento (2007) and Sacramento Super Love Poem Slam Champion (2008).
The Village Voices Choir: This vocal ensemble comprised of Serna Village Participants of all ages meets twice weekly under the mentorship of Skylab Youth Coach Tony Parker. The only criterion to join is a love of singing!
CORE Dance Collective: Since it launched on to the Sacramento dance scene in 2007, CORE Dance Collective has become the region’s premiere contemporary dance company, selling out its last three seasons. Under the direction of award winning choreographer Kelli Leighton, CORE’s dynamic performances use the beauty and power of dance to convey aspects of our shared human qualities. Through the dancers’ movement, the audience members identify with the humor, pain, struggle, or triumph presented on stage.
