July 7, 2011
Add Review/Comment
A critical and popular triumph, Osaka Elegy established Director Kenji Mizoguchi as one of Japan’s major filmmakers. Isuzu Yamada stars as Ayako, a switchboard operator trapped in a compromising relationship with her boss to help support her wastrel father. With its fluid cinematography and deft storytelling, Osaka Elegy ushered in a new era of sound melodrama for Mizoguchi.
This film is presented in collaboration with the Sacramento Japanese Film Festival and will be introduced by Festival Director Barbara Kado.
Film Frame is a part of the program series Thursdays 'til 9. Sponsored by Bank of America.
