People and Places: Photography by Mark Schatz features photographs by Mark Schatz, a world traveler and principal at Field Paoli Architects--a San Francisco firm that specializes in the design of community buildings. Mr. Schatz was the principal architect for George Sim Community Center, as well as the South Natomas Community Center and Library—both located in Sacramento.
His interest in photography began while he was a student at Stanford University, where he studied with professors Matt Kahn, Leo Holub, and Robert Parker. The exhibition at SMUD features images of places and people Mark has encountered in his travels to Peru, Japan, Italy, and the Middle East.
Mark's work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in San Francisco, Emeryville, and Novato, California. It has been published in numerous editions of the Architecture Calendar published by the American Institute of Architects and he has won several prizes in their annual national photo competition. One of Mark's photographs won a prize in the Kodak international photo competition.
