MUSIC
Sacramento Opera & Sacramento Philharmonic: Pagliacci
November 19-November 20, 2011
Add Review/Comment
The Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra will be featured in the first half of the program in repertoire influenced by the lyric stage and specially selected by Maestro Morgan. In the second half, the Sacramento Opera poses the philosophical question of whether life imitates art or vice versa in a full production of Leoncavallo’s internationally popular, Pagliacci. In this “play within a play,” stage and life collide--violently. The show is dramatic and emotionally intense, underscored by lush and expansive orchestral music, tuneful choruses, and one of the most heart-wrenching songs in the operatic repertory vesti la giubba, or loosely translated, “the clothes of a fool.”
