Brimming with life, love, and betrayal, Anton Chekhov’s classic realism masterpiece The Seagull comes to Sacramento State’s Playwrights’ Theatre. Professor Michelle Felten directs the first of Chekhov’s masterworks, written in 1895. The Seagull concerns the romantic entanglements and regrets of a group of actors, writers, and artists gathered on a Russian estate. The Seagull paints a rich and tumultuous portrait of the human heart. Chekhov presents a cast of characters with competing passions who carelessly damage each other, blinded by self-interest. The result is both tragedy and comedy, in equal measure and sometimes in the same instant.
