Meet the Author: Susan Violante: Innocent War
February 12, 2012
Author Susan Violante has written a heartwarming story of a family caught up in the hardships, tragedies, and dangers of World War II. In June, 1940, 10-year-old Nino and his family were living in the Italian colony of Tripoli when the city was attacked by French forces. Nino’s family struggles to survive and flees to Sicily only to see the war again become part of their lives as Germans and Americans fight for control of Sicily. The book is based upon tapes recorded by Nino as an adult recounting the realities of the war from a child’s
point of view.
Susan's presentation will include family heirlooms and the story of her journey in getting her parents to open up and talk about their past.
