Meet the Author: Barry S. Martin, Author of Forgotten Aviator

We read about the heroics of many of the pilots from WW II but few of us know about the early pilots that pioneered the mail routes for the postal service and pushed aviation from novelty "barnstorming" and racing, to what it has become today. Forgotten Aviator chronicals the life of Royal Leonard, one of these early pioneers who progressed from flying early, very risky mail routes, to even more dangerous exploits as one...

We read about the heroics of many of the pilots from WW II but few of us know about the early pilots that pioneered the mail routes for the postal service and pushed aviation from novelty "barnstorming" and racing, to what it has become today. Forgotten Aviator chronicals the life of Royal Leonard, one of these early pioneers who progressed from flying early, very risky mail routes, to even more dangerous exploits as one of the private pilots for Chiang Kai-shek during a period when China was torn apart politically, and at war with Japan.

Barry S. Martin has spent twenty years uncovering a rich trove of private documentary sources for the Forgotten Aviator. Martin is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the College of William and Mary and has an MA in history from the University of Washington and a JD from the University of California Berkeley. He is a retired Administrative Law Judge and resides in Sacramento, California with his wife, Carolyn.
