A great way to learn improv while meeting new people in a low-pressure environment. Blacktop believes everyone can improv, and we’ll prove it. In Level 1 learn how to: make decisions, listen and support, embrace change, create characters, and have fun.

If you've taken an improv course before, you've never taken one quite like this. At Blacktop we focus on character and narrative improv. Both experienced and new improvisers will take a lot away from this class.

Classes meet for four weeks, two hours each week, limit 16 students. This is the first class in a series of three. You can take one, two, or all three classes, each focusing on a variety of skills, and improv formats (learn the Harold and more!). We have financial aid available for those who need it. We never want money to come between you and an incredible art form like improv.

The class will be taught by Paul Burke who has studied and performed improv the past eight years in Sacramento, San Francisco, LA, Chicago, and Austin. In addition to working with teachers from UCB, Annoyance, and BATS, he had the privileged to take the entire iO training program in Chicago. He opened Blacktop Comedy in 2011, a venue offering weekly shows and classes.
