Medeski Martin & Wood with Joshua Light Show
April 20, 2013
Medeski Martin & Wood: Wide open: That’s the phrase John Medeski uses to describe his bandmates’ musical sensibilities, the attitude he seeks in himself, and the spirit of musical adventure that Medeski Martin & Wood have pursued for two decades. The trio’s amalgam of jazz, funk, and a million other musical currents and impulses is nearly impossible to classify, which is just how they like it. The trio’s genre-defying compositions, expansive improvisation, and relentless grooves are made even more thrilling by the addition of the Joshua Light Show.
Joshua Light Show: Director and creator Joshua White uses many of the same analog visual effects that set the stage for musicians such as the Who, Jimi Hendrix, and the Grateful Dead (among countless others) at the Fillmore East in the late 1960s. This is a rare chance to experience an explosive, ephemeral combination of art-making and performance.
