Get ready to turn back time to the 1850s! Free to the public and a wildly favorite Sacramento heritage celebration, Gold Rush Days 2013 returns to Old Sacramento over Labor Day weekend. Nearly 200 tons of dirt will transform the streets of Old Sacramento's 27-acre historic district into a scene straight out of the Gold Rush era. The annual heritage celebration is produced by the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Bureau with support from the City of Sacramento, Historic Old Sacramento Foundation, Old Sacramento Business Association, and California State Parks.

The unique four-day event features a wide variety of crowd-favorite entertainment. Guests to Old Sacramento will be entertained by talented musicians performing live on several stages, Old West theatrics, and family-friendly melodramas such as a dramatic “damsel in distress” skit featuring the Hook & Ladder Fire Brigade, history re-enactments such as Squatter’s Riots and Pony Express Relays, horse-drawn carriages, cowboys on horseback, ladies riding sidesaddle, wagon rides, gold panning, Artisan Alley, hands-on children’s arts and crafts activities, watermelon eating contests in the Save Mart BBQ Patio area, the popular Tent City depicting daily life during the Gold Rush, and much more.

As a new attraction this year, lively and fun baseball skits will take place in the streets of Old Sacramento that feature spirited baseball players in period uniforms who invite crowd participation and celebrate the early days of the sport in the Capital City.

To set the tone and get the crowd in a festive spirit, an impressive and varied line-up of free, live entertainment will be available on various stages throughout Old Sacramento, including a variety of bands playing many different genres in the popular Save Mart BBQ Patio area.

Tasty treats are available for purchase in the dozens of local eateries along with barbecued favorites in the Save Mart BBQ Patio area, plus fish & chips, roasted corn on the cob, fresh-made kettle korn, homemade sarsaparilla, root beer, draft ale, local wines, and more available throughout the event.
