The Keaton Raphael Memorial is currently recruiting participants to shave during their 8th Annual St Baldrick’s Celebrations The celebrations, which are scheduled to take place March 13 at Westfield Galleria in Roseville and March 15 at de Vere’s Irish Pub in Sacramento, are designed to raise funds to support childhood cancer research by recruiting “heroes” to shave their heads in return for pledges of financial support from friends and family members

Darrell Corti is the son of Frank Corti, Co-Founder of Corti Brothers' Grocary with his brother Gino Corti in 1947 The Corti Brothers' mission was to expand the culinary experiences of Sacramentans by offering delicacies and wines not readily available elsewhere in the Sacramento area, thereby providing them with an appreciation for diverse cuisines

Frank's goal to educate was literally embodied in his son Darrell, whose reputation for an encyclopedic knowledge of food and wines attracts queries from around the world As told by Ruth Reichel, editor of Gourmet Magazine, in her memoir "Comfort Me with Apples," Colman Andrews, editor of Saveur Magazine described Darrell as the man "Who knows more about food and wine than anyone else in the world"

In 1967, as an insider's insider, Darrell started a newsletter, now in it's 38th year of publication, featuring rare, high quality food items and wines discovered during his travels in Europe and Asia The newsletter is prized for it's wealth of information including essential details about a product's history, uses, modes of production and other esoteric information Never dull, Darrell is known for free expression of his wide ranging opinions, which are often iconoclastic and seldom sugar-coated

Darrell's contribution to the food and wine literacy of his friends, associates and customers has been considerable He played a large role in the development of wine production in Amador County He was made a Cavaliere, the Italian equivalent of knighthood, by the Italian Government, for his efforts in promoting Italian products, not the least of which was the almost single-handed introduction of Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale to America

Burnett Miller: (born September 2, 1923) is a former mayor of Sacramento, California who co-founded, with Oakley Hall and Blair Fuller, the Squaw Valley Writer's Conference and was featured in Ken Burns' documentary "The War" which features Miller's harrowing eyewitness account of encountering the Holocaust at Mauthausen

Phil Isenberg is a former Assembly Member & Mayor of Sacramento (1975-1982) During his tenure in the Legislature, he specialized in a variety of governmental activities, including extensive work on the state budget and state/local government financial relations, environmental and water issues and healthcare He currently serves as Vice-President of WEAVE (Women Escaping a Violent Environment) in Sacramento and the Advisory Board of the Sacramento Valley Conservancy

Registration begins at 9:00 am at the Sacramento Executive Airport at 6151 Freeport Boulevard The program begins at 10:00 am; homes will be open to visitors from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm Participants will receive tour booklets/driving maps upon check-in, and are encouraged to check-out the interpretive items on display (including a showing of Scopitone films), and the airport itself, a Leonard F Starks-designed (circa 1955/56) building

Guests can set their own pace and visit locations on the map in any order they wish through the close of the tour at 4:00 pm Neighborhood parking is available and biking is encouraged Homeowners and docents will be on-site to greet visitors and answer questions

A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Short Center South, a neighborhood organization providing studio art and recreational opportunities for people with developmental disabilities

Born in Sacramento: The Born in Sacramento area is reserved especially for native Sacramentans of all ages to make their marks Officer Henry Luckie sponsors this area
