Music Circus

Music Circus is America's Theatre in the Round! Since 1951, this first-class summer stock has become the predominant landmark on Sacramento's cultural landscape. Over 130,000 patrons a year attend musical theater in the arena-style theatre. Truly a community event, the Music Circus employs a variety of professional and aspiring artists and theatre lovers. There is something truly miraculous about Music Circus!

Sacramento Music Circus is produced and presented by California Musical Theatre, Northern California’s premiere producer and presenter of musical theatre--the largest nonprofit musical theatre in California. Since the inception of Music Circus in 1951 under an open-air, circus-style big top, California Musical Theatre has grown to become the most successful performing arts organization in Northern California. Between the Music Circus, Broadway Sacramento, and the Cosmopolitan Cabaret, California Musical Theatre entertains 300,000 patrons every year.

There’s trouble in River City when traveling salesman Harold Hill comes to town promising to form a children’s marching band. Features "76 Trombones" and "Goodnight My Someone."
    08/14/12- 08/19/12	Fiddler on the Roof Wells Fargo Pavilion Fiddler on the Roof Presented by Music Circus and California Musical Theatre at Wells Fargo Pavilion August 14-August 19, 2012 Like the iconic rooftop musician, playful yet reverent Tevye teeters between his respect for tradition and love for his daughters, each anxious to follow her heart after a suitor her father finds unsuitable. This beloved musical features "Tradition" and "If I Were A Rich Man."

      "Annie Get Your Gun" opened on Broadway in 1964 starring Broadway legend Ethel Merman, and has since become a musical theatre staple. Musicals like "Annie Get Your Gun" may be over shadowed by modern theatrical productions such as "Wicked" and "Mary Poppins," but it was refreshing to watch a musical where the essence of the production was focused on the music, comedy, and exciting choreography. Full of wisecracks, witty quips, and humorous songs, the play toes the line of offensive (glitzy swastikas and blatant sexual suggestions, for example), but stops right where it should, leaving the audience amused and sated with laughter.       Unbelievably well cast show, quality like this is only available in Sacramento through California Musical Theatre. All of the performances are excellent. The production value is fantastic, ineresting and professional. Sondheim is challenging, stimulating and a cure for the usual, silly, tired shows that seem to be so popular now. Collapse

      Another show like this one and my season tickets are cancelled. Almost no dancing, terrible casting (the mixed races of the protagonists are- Oh so politically correct and oh so ridiculous). This is supposed to be the 20's in New York and the casting never allows one to become lost in the fantasy. You'll have a better time watching Lawrence Welk. Save your money. Collapse
