Enjoy the Fly Me to the Moon! exhibit at the Discovery Museum Science & Space Center. With a rocket ship for children to play astronaut and space artifacts from NASA, the entire family learns about space. This weekend there is an outer space theme in our classroom with space activities for children 12 and under. Join us this weekend to celebrate the retirement of our Red-tailed Hawk, Katite. After 30 years of faithful service, she is leaving the museum to enjoy a peaceful retirement. Red-tailed hawks only live 10-15 years in the wild and about 15-20 years in captivity, so Katite is a very special bird! Children can try on astronaut suits and helmets and sit on a “moon rock” for their photo. Families can enjoy the electricity table with a plasma ball and Jacob’s Ladder that makes lightning.

With seating for sixty, our 20-minutes star show offers an intimate look at the local night sky. Shows change with the season, but each is tailored for the current audience. Our educators encourage questions throughout their presentations as they demystify the stars and planets. All shows feature heavenly bodies locally visible to the unaided eye, and include current celestial events.
