      Live performance is always a dodgy proposition. Most of it has a slapdash character about it; often the acting is poor, the design elements are unconvincing, and venues are often not ideal. These common problems are not what is wrong with The Angry Red Drum. The acting could be better, maybe, but it's not that bad. The choreography, set design and costuming are very intriguing and intelligently conceived. The theater space in Wright Hall is a comfortable room with the usual amenities. The problem with this play is that it does not make sense. You cannot analyze it or find any sense of order in it because it does not give you enough to be able to create meaning by filling in the blanks. I like theater that requires the spectator to fill in gaps. I like to work hard. But I need to get something in return. This play offers cool set design and some interesting concepts, but if I'm going to sit through a play, I need to feel I've experienced something. This play does not provide that. Collapse
