Sojourner Truth Multicultural Arts Museum

Named in honor of the celebrated abolitionist and womens rights activist, the Sojourner Truth Multicultural Arts Museum is dedicated to bringing African art to the general public. Displaying art from around the world, the museum also features an extensive list of workshops, classes, and special events.

    I was thoroughly impressed with this museum. I went during one of their big events when the artists were present. I have never been to a museum where the art, artist and visitor are so warmly embraced. I overheard many artists talking with visitors about their pieces and I couldn't help but listen in. Everyone connected so easily. The atmosphere was so positive, I saw everyone, children to adults conversing with great excitement and wonder. The art is beautiful, deep and sincere. They are doing a great job at bringing art to the common level which we often don't get to see. Collapse

    I had the pleasure of visiting the museum and experiencing the wonderful wall of African American history. I can truely say that the artist captured the spirit of the struggle of the era. It was a wonderful spiritual experience of reflection on how far we really have come as a people. We surely have a long way to go but this emotional artistic expression places much in perspective.
