The Sizzling Sirens Burlesque Experience

With a burlesque ideology entrenched in evolution and rooted in performance art, The Sizzling Sirens offer an exhilarating, unexpected entertainment alternative to audiences spanning Sacramento’s underground music scene to the burgeoning arts milieu. From such venues as the Crocker Art Museum to Harlow's Nightclub, the Sirens have taken the Capitol City by storm one show at a time, reimagining it’s alternative arts & culture landscape since June of 2008. The Siren's goal is simple: to entertain and enliven their audience, while sharing their love of the arts and signature infusion of contemporary theatrical elements within the classic burlesque structure, creating a truly unprecedented performance experience.

    The Executive/Artistic Director of the Sizzling Sirens has, on numerous occasions, stated that they are a "performance art", rather than "dance", troupe. This resulted in the departure, some willingly, and some not, of the few performers/members who were classically trained dancers, in order to fit within the Director's artistic vision. That is the Director's right, absolutely; she created the troupe. However, to be fair, it is inaccurate for the Director to promote the Sirens' shows as a "dance" performance after having dismissed all the real dancers who were once involved. Collapse

    The sirens do a great job "promoting" themselves, yet I was very disappointed at their performance. I've been a photographer for a lot of burlesque across the country, mostly in Denver and NYC, some really good and some really bad. This troupe is really well put together and more organized compared to many other troupes, but I think their advertisement and description of what the dance troupe is and does is total b.s., what separates a dance group from a dress up group?? If you want to see some girls screw around on stage looking pretty while you drink a beer, then you should go check out a show! If you really appreciate good dance and art, you might find it a bit lacking in the art and dance aspect, and maybe even see it as a bit tasteless. I give it a two for marketing effort, because they do a great job at it! The description on the website is a bit misleading... the promotion is professional...the dance is below beginner.     I was really expecting more from this troupe after hearing so much for so long about them. I saw them perform at the Shady Lady a few weeks ago for the first time and had high expectations. I really, honestly expected a great stage performance show and wound up disappointed. They need to work a lot more on building up suspense in their show and actually perform some choreography, because they never danced. They just struck me as a bunch of women who are hungry for attention and don't display any actual skills or talent relating to dance or theater performance. They're just a symptom of Sacramento: a big fish in a small pond. If these gals were in San Francisco where REAL burlesque performers can be seen, nobody would have paid any attention. In fact, I'm pretty certain that they would have been booed off the stage. If your idea of entertainment is watching two average-looking girls twirl socks and trying to act cute, then this troupe if perfect for you. Want real entertainment? Sorry! Collapse

    I love this classes, they are like an investment in my life at different levels: make love relationships more hot and fun, I get better shaped body, I can be myself, love myself and enjoy myself like never before. It`s a boost for the self esteem and confidence and a whole package for men to have a woman capable of all this skills, that he should be looking only at her and not trying to find out there what she has inside already (we women need to bring it out) and is his responsibility to cooperate by appreciating beauty in different ways, forms and colors not only what movies and magazines show us.
